What is Sports Management?
I believe that Sports Management is the capability (skills) to function in the sports business, as the name says, dealing with people (inside and outside the company) in order to get the best results possible and at the same time, help increase the popularity of sports through entertainment events, which will lead to more people want to practice sports. I think that the key component of Sports Management, as I said before, is to be able to well communicate with your employees and future customers.
From the picture, I understand that the business of sports is extremely competitive, like the game of sport itself as well. The sports industry is enormous and increasing year by year while more people are into sports and it is generating a lot of money. In order to compete with other companies from the sports market, companies must have an ideal structure (pyramid) with the function (skills) of employees so tasks are correctly done. A company must have important areas covered such as the management, marketing, finance and law departments. Only that way a company will function well and become successful if its employees are satisfied, dedicated and ambitious.
To understand this topic better, I am going to use an example of a sports area where sports managers have a big impact in the function of the company:
"Commercialization is becoming more and more important in the world of sports since more products are introduced in the market, leading to a higher demand and competitive market. Commercialization is the company’s “key tool” to take advantage from competitors, if they are smart enough, and use their resources well to make a difference in the market, so customers feel more attracted towards the product. Also sports commercialization has been influenced by the professionalization of the sport while athletes, managers, agents and sport team owners are affected and benefit since fans want to pay to watch a sports event and purchase their products. The sports industry generates so much money, that if you want it or not, it has an impact on sport managers, and depending on their performance and behaviour on work, it will affect the company’s business, either for good or bad. Nowadays, sport managers need to have individual specific skills to help the company grow, and to do so, be able to lead a group of people in order to compete in the sports market industry"
